Driveway in Ardnore, Kilkenny City

The owners wanted the front of the house to work better and look tidier. The old concrete drive and the lawn beside it were turned into one tarmac driveway, with beds kept for flowers.

Before
After

Grass removed

The lawn was dug out to make room for the wider driveway, keeping disruption to the rest of the garden to a minimum.

Kerbs for flower beds

Kerbs were set along the edges to form flower beds. They frame the driveway, hold the soil back and keep the edges clean.

Entrance widened

The entrance was widened so bigger cars could get in and out easily.

Pier rebuilt

One of the piers was in poor condition, so it was rebuilt to stand up properly and suit the new driveway.

New tarmac

Finally, new tarmac went down on the prepared base and was rolled in: a smooth, hard wearing surface that will take the traffic for years.
